So often it's assumed that if a person is a masochist they are a submissive too Today we will be clearing up the confusion starting with What is a Masochist in BDSM

A Masochist

is a person who enjoys erotic pain inflicted on them; this could be in the form of erotic spankings , whippings, CBT and various other kinks such as erotic humiliation performed by a Sadistic Top player who enjoys inflicting erotic pain and or Verbal humiliation. 

A Submissive

Is a person who enjoys taking erotic and non erotic instructions and orders. They recieve pleasure through giving up control to a dominant partner. They receive pleasure from serving their Dominant partner who takes the lead in the relationship both inside and outside the bedroom. We call this the practice of Power Exchanged through Domination and Submission. Domestic Submissive duties can also be seen practiced by both male and female submissives. 

Whereas a Sadist and Masochist both enjoy the practice of S&M for sexual gratification 

Sado-Masochist types

may engage in the roleplay of Villains and Victims they may also engage in the roleplay of Domination and submission in the bedroom this is known as Kinky Roleplay its not about actual Submission or Domination its about the art of bringing fantasy to life through play that includes inflicting pleasure through Pain

That’s how we differentiate Submissives and Dominants from Kinky Tops and Bottoms based on how they desire to practice their kinks

So to Summarize 

Kinksters Roleplay being Dominant and Submissive We call role players Tops and Bottoms. Dominants and Submissives practice Power exchange in the form of Domination and submission inside and outside the bedroom

Can you be submissive without being a masochist?

Yes! You can be submissive without masochistic kinks just as you can be a Dominant without Sadistic Kinks

Can you be a Masochist without being Submissive?

Yes You can be a Masochist without being submissive just as you can be Sadistic without being Dominant. They are separate kinks. These kinks may or may not be practiced together. 

Many kinks go together like S&M and Humiliation. Yet They are completely separate kinks that often overlap. Just like S&M often Overlaps with D/S Kinks and practices and yet they can  also be practiced completely separate from one another too depending on each dynamic

So remember, It's perfectly normal to be Submissive without being masochistic just as it's perfectly normal to be Masochistic without being Submissive mmhmm Yes it's perfectly fine to enjoy sadistic roleplay without the desire to be Dominant everyday.. Just as its perfectly OK to be Dominant without a sadistic thought .. 

Just know that Whatever you desire .. Desires you too mmhmm A dominant cannot exist without its opposite the submissive just as a Sadist cannot exist without its counter opposite the Masochist.
